Utah Trip – Part 3 Escalante, route 12

After Bryce we got on route 12 and drove to Escalante, a beautiful area with amazingly majestic views all around.  We found a great boon docking site off Hole-in-the-Rock Road just east of Escalante.  This road went 57 miles to the famous Hole-in-Rock near Lake Powell.

I thought the ride in the jeep all the way to Lake Powell would be awesome.  However, after about 15 miles of severe washboard, and no indication it would get better, we decided to turn around.  I think the jeep with stiff suspension may have exacerbated the problem.  Anyway, I feel we missed a lot of great sights along that road, slot canyons, arches etc.  Maybe next time.

When we got back from our attempt at the road we found the awning on the RV had broken loose on the right lower attachment.  Luckily we were able to roll it up then with plastic zip ties secure the bottom part that was broken.  When we got home I was able to order the cheap part on Amazon and easily fix it.  Meanwhile it held securely the rest of the trip.

After the washboard road adventure we went exploring north on FR153 through Hells Backbone via the town of Boulder off 12.  An amazing road with steep cliffs on either side of the road and many canyons to view.

We stayed at this spot near Escalante for two nights then ventured on to explore FishLake National Forest.  Part 4
