10 years of hands-on experience at the top level of accounting and finance in the small business environment and, over 8 years experience as a CPA working with small and large corporations. I’ve dealt with cash flow, lending institutions, auditors, taxes, budgets, contract negotiations, upgrade of accounting systems, employee benefits, 401k implementation, costing/pricing, computer modeling, and sale/acquisition of businesses. I have excellent communication skills and work very well with creative people. I have been working with PC computers for 30 years now and well versed in most necessary aspects including repair and diagnostics.
Relevant business experience:
Goodby, Berlin & Silverstein (advertising agency):
As chief financial officer of this company, I was instrumental in its growth from $2 million in billings to $130 million over 6 years. The employee base grew from 12 to 70 and the agency became one of the most famous in the world. I was always on top of cash and profit projections so there were never any unpleasant surprises. I was involved in every aspect of the business except the creative element of ad making.
Heron International Studios, Inc. (commercial artwork for interior designers)
As president of this artist owned company, I was in charge of developing overall marketing/business plans, pricing, sales promotions, budgeting, tax strategies, contract negotiations, meeting cash needs and handling the personal financial affairs of the owner (Helen Webber). The company did about $1 million in annual sales, employed 30 people and had 40 sales reps nationwide.
Sunday Promotions (Rolling Stones)
I was controller for the 1975 Rolling Stones tour which did $9 million in gross sales. I did all accounting, pretour planning, budgeting, contract negotiations, and box office settlements. In addition, I dealt with outside auditors, attorneys, insurance brokers and taxing authorities on behalf of the Rolling Stones organization. I had gained previous rock and roll accounting experience from being the tour accountant for the 1974 Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young tour and the 1974 George Harrison tour working for Bill Graham of FM Productions while on leave from my CPA firm listed below.
Public Accounting Experience:
Kraai and Panek, CPA’s
Partner in this small firm that specialized in non-profit organizations.
Laventhol & Horwath, CPA’s
Audit supervisor specializing in hotels and restaurants.
Arthur Anderson & Co.
The Last 25+ Years:
Since moving from San Francisco in 1991 to live in a more rural setting, I have been self employed. I began with home remodeling and resale, now referred to as “flipping”. Then I became a commodity trader and developed a computerized trading system (Tres Hombres) that historically, over a 6 year period, had annual returns of approximately 200%. I licensed the system out to a brokerage firm in Southern California that marketed it to investors.
I moved to Nevada County in 1996 and then Placer county in 2007. During this time I have been designing and building websites (now part time) and working with developing an ETF trading system. I also achieved my A+ certification for PC repair and maintenance to augment my internet work.
I live with my wife Kate in our home in Colfax, with two dogs (Ben and Biggs) and our cat (Jeli). We enjoy hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, RV camping, kayak fishing, cooking, and our grandchildren.
