Loon Lake Campout September 2017

Loon Lake

This was my last campout at Loon Lake this year.  Spent four days.  It was gorgeous even though the lake was way down.   You can see from the drone video I took, below, how low the lake was and how far away my kayak had to be hauled.  They lowered the lake to rebuild the boat launch ramp.  Only a couple other campers in the loop.  Weather for perfect and the fishing was great.  Landed five trout plus two tossed the hook in the air.  Ben, Charlie and I did a hike each day.  The first day we went all the way to the lodge via the coastline.  This turned out to be four miles RT and longest one Ben has done since his knee surgery five months ago.  He did great and Charlie was on fire.  Check the video of the two them playing.  Charlie was able to run himself silly since there was miles of unoccupied beach.  This trip I stayed in site #15 which was a first for me.  I think I prefer it to my old standby #17.  It only has a neighbor on one side making it easy to take the dogs for a walk.

With the lake down I just love the beachcombing and exploring the strange rock formations.  I’m amazed at how relatively few tree stumps are there.  This trip i found seven lures and two reels.  Four of the lures were keepers.  Although the fishing was good, I really didn’t as many fish in on my fishfinder as I normally do earlier in the year.  But lots of action this trip.

Here are two videos, one of the dogs and one taken with my drone to show the exposed geography.
